1.1 Coal, coke and the prediction of their properties. Metallurgical coke, derived from the pyrolysis of selected coals, plays several critical roles in the ironmaking blast furnace (Babich and Senk 2013; Bertling 1999; Biswas 1981).As a structural support, and source of permeability for the layers of softening iron materials, the selection of an appropriate coke can significantly influence ...

Influence of coal fluidity on coal blend and coke quality

Blending of non-coking coals above 20% with the hard coking coals used in this research decreases the blend fluidity and impairs the coke quality. It was seen that the coals lose their fluidity on weathering, and the value becomes less than half after a two months of storage at site. Weathering appears to be more rapid in case of semisoft than ...

Coal Blending: Business Value, Analysis, and Optimization

Coal blending is a critically important process in the coal mining industry as it directly influences the number of product tonnes and the total revenue generated by a mine site. Coal blending represents a challenging and complex problem with numerous blending possibilities, multiple constraints and competing objectives. At many mine sites, blending decisions are made using heuristics that ...

Modeling and optimization of coal blending and coking costs using coal ...

Coke is an important raw material in the steel industry, and its quality directly influences the smelting of iron and steel. To improve coal quality and reduce coal blending costs, we need to predict the coke quality and optimize the coal blending scheme. In this paper, we propose a modeling and optimization method based on the characteristics of the coal blending and coking process.

Optimization of Coal Blending with Backpropagation ... - SpringerLink

Coal blending is the process of mixing good quality coal with low-quality coal to obtain medium-quality coal. One method of coal blending is mixing in the furnace whereby only placing one type of coal in each coal burner that is known as furnace blending. The coal blending is done by mixing medium rank coal (MRC) and low-rank coal (LRC) with a ...
